With her "exorcism of the demons" she fought the traumatic war experiences and the norms and rules of the traditional Victorian society, which forced men and women to act as puppets. At the end of her crime stories, the readers may find peace in a world of spiritual well-being, in a realm of justice and righteousness, in what one might call the kingdom of God. |
