Descripción
Sumario:World-view is important for the interpretation of the Old Testament in Africa. A definition is given and its functions as well as its hermeneutical value are indicated. To determine its compatibility in the Old Testament and in Africa, examples of temporal orientation of both world-views are studied in more detail. Historic perspective is of great importance in this connection, especially the conception of the past and future. A comparison of African and Old Testament eschatology supplying applicable examples from history result in two options: catastrophe or peace, the apocalyptic Xhosa cattle-killing of 1857 or the contemporary Independent Churches movement respectively. These are both legitimate options in the Old Testament as well as in Africa and in line with their world-views.
