总结:Volker Leppin's biography of Luther has resulted in a lively discussion in German historiography. In this article, the author addresses some of the reviews of his book by explaining his view of the major points of contention. For example, he argues for a critical interpretation of Luther's ego-documents, especially those of the older Luther who reflected on his earlier years, in particular the alleged "Reformation turning point." Leppin regards the idea of the closeness of God as Luther's leading theological concept, which the reformer developed further both in the medieval-mystic tradition as well as in his theology of justification. Thus, the transition from the Middle Ages to the early modern period is seen not as a break, but as a slow transformation which nevertheless also resulted in radically new developments, among others the concept of the priesthood of all believers.
