Summary:Pope Francis’ apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (2013) addresses social issues even if it is not a social document. This paper unfolds its social message and detects the possible convergences with some social themes in the Latin American theology of liberation. In doing this, Francis’ considerations will be framed, as far as possible, in the perspective of the traditional Roman Catholic social thought. Thus, providing also insights on where Francis’ teaching adheres more and where less with the previous social magisterium.
