Description
Summary:This biographical article is probably the first full-scale study on Chancellor Jean le Sauvage or Ioannes Sylvagius (1455-1518). Sauvage was honored by Erasmus in the main dedication of his Institutio Principis Christiani and considered by Thomas More as a worthy prince for the Utopian state. This article intends to fill a historiographical lacuna and lift once and for all the darkening condemnatio memoriae which Sauvage posthumously fell victim to under the Spanish-Habsburg rulers.
