A intolerância individual pode ser imposta pela dependência da respectiva cultura ou de determinadas pessoas. Ela recebe o seu impulso do inconsciente, seja em virtude da identificação com a sociedade, seja porque não há tolerância em relação a certos desejos pessoais reprimidos e negados. Sendo assim, a conquista da tolerância está associada intimamente ao processo de conscientização
