Sumario: | Scholars, intellectuals, politicians and other leaders in many Muslim countries have been engaged in debate over the Islamization of their constitutional and legal systems through the implementation of Islamic Shari'a law. This article reviews the recent history of this debate in the Sudanese context and attempts to draw some wider conclusions regarding the prospects and implications of the process of Islamization itself.
