Unlike other Japanese religious organisations which operate abroad mostly among Japanese communities, Soka Gakkai focusses on rucruiting members from among the local population and setting up more and more overseas branches. The current leaders of the organisation are using Nichiren's (a 13th century Buddhist preacher) ideas to justify their efforts to spread their ideology as a world religion.
