Riepilogo:In the article it is argued, that to understand the recent roots of Soviet motives in the Gulf region, it is important to consider the realities of oil reserves and production in both the Soviet Union and the Gulf. It is concluded that the magnitude of the challenge and its implications for American-Arab relations become clear when this challenge is put in perspective: Moscow is returning to the Middle East through the conservative pro-Western regimes in the Gulf.
