Sumario: | About 1750 the doctrine of original sin plunged into a crisis. A range of German Enlightenment theologians, especially Spalding, Jerusalem, Semler, Steinbart, Teller, Töllner, started to shell this dogma. Especially basic ideas of the Enlightenment - End of man, happiness, liberty, perfectibility and education - as well as a historical-critical exegesis of Genesis 3 and the history of dogma shook this centerpiece of Lutheran anthropology. These perspectives and motives determine Protestant theological reflections about sin to the present day. Without offering elaborate reconstructions, the article offers a research sketch intended to encourage subsequent studies. |
