Description
Summary:In a contribution to the conference on secularization and discipleship in Africa (2014), Jacob Haasnoot reported the need for effective discipleship, for the gospel to have more impact in people’s lives and in society. This article relies on the same observation, made by the author among theological students, in an African and interdenominational context. Whether the Church tradition thinks of « becoming more Christ-like », « sanctification », « spiritual growth », « spiritual formation », « spiritual maturity », this observation on the weaknesses of discipleship can be extended beyond its original context. In this paper, the author examines how two discipleship resistant elements find fertile ground in both the religious and secular experience in Africa
