Description
Summary:This essay draws from the insights of John Ralston-Saul's, in particular his assertion that Canada is a "Métis nation", to reflect on the unique ethos of religious freedom as it is lived out within Canadian society. Owing less to the values of the Reformation or of the European Enlightenment, it reflects the influence of the founding cultures of Canada's First nations. It finds expression in the balance of the free and intentional exercise of conscience in matters of religion by individuals and communities with the active promotion and protection of those same rights by the religious other.
