Eine wertorientierte Haltung ist notwendige Grundlage für verantwortungsvolles Handeln von Sozialarbeiter/-innen in der Praxis. Die Auseinandersetzung mit eigenen Werten sowie mit denen von Klienten und Klientinnen ermöglicht eine kritische Reflexionsfähigkeit. Dies kann zur Selbstvergewisserung und Selbstsorge beitragen und die Entwicklung einer beruflichen Identität fördern. Beispielhaft werden im vorliegenden Beitrag folgende Impulse aus der Wertepluralität betrachtet: Spiritualität; der Einfluss christlicher Werte wie Glaube, Liebe und Vertrauen; humanistische Werte, die zu einem Verständnis von dialogischer Bildung sowie zur subjektiven Deutung von Wirklichkeit führen; Gerechtigkeit und soziale Verantwortung und ökonomische Werte als Kontextfaktoren. Abschließend wird argumentiert, dass die Funktion von Werten sich zusammenfassen lässt als wertvoll für die Berufsidentität, Unterstützung bei professionellen Handlungen und den Schutz der Klienten und Klientinnen. Innere Reflexionsbereitschaft und kritische Reflexionsfähigkeit tragen zu einer Erweiterung und Stärkung der Handlungskompetenz von Sozialarbeiter/-innen bei, um im Alltag, in Konfliktsituationen und ethischen Dilemmata bestmögliche Entscheidungen zu treffen. 
520 |a Professional social work comprises expertise, competences of action and a professional attitude. It is based on political, scientific and ethical standards. A value-based attitude is the necessary foundation of professional action. The verification of one's own values or of the clients’ value-base facilitates the competence of critical reflection. This may contribute to self-assurance and self-care. As an example, the article focuses on certain impulses of the value plurality: spirituality; the influences of Christian values such as belief, love and trust; humanistic values that contribute to an understanding of dialogue-based education and subjective interpretation of reality; justice and social responsibility and economical values as framing conditions. Finally, it will be summarized that the function of values is important for professional identity, for supporting professional action and protection of the client. The inner will to reflect and the ability of critical reflection leads to a widening and reinforcement of the competences of action of social workers to decide in every day work, conflicts and ethical dilemmas in the best possible way.
