Σύνοψη:Few figures in modern history have been tribunalized to the extent of Eugenio Pacelli, who as Pope Pius XII (1939–1958) led the Roman Catholic Church through the Second World War, the division and reconstruction of Europe, and the dark days of the early Cold War. Despite his long pontificate, preceded by two decades in the Vatican diplomatic service, scholarly attention has focused primarily on Pacelli's wartime record, specifically on his response to the Holocaust.
