Описание
Итог:Globally, there are several books that present a comprehensive approach to pastoral psychology. Recently, Sahaya Selvam has authored Pastoral Psychology for Africa: A Guide for Practice (Nairobi: Paulines, 2019). The book fills a gap in Christian-scientific literature in Africa. The aim of the book is to provide a set of evidence-based principles for pastoral practice in the African context. The present review evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of the work and to consider its possible impact in Christian ministry, from an African perspective. The review begins by pointing out the aims of the book. It goes on to evaluate the manner in which the author uses the pastoral cycle, dividing every chapter into phenomenon, principle and practice having parallel to see, judge and act. Thirdly, the review provides an evaluative summary of the five parts under which the 30 chapters of the book are divided. The review focuses on two chapters as prime examples of the strengths, structure of chapters, and as examples of the critical issues that the book responds to. Some areas of further research that are critical in the African context are also suggested. Finally, the review notes some of the limitations of the book such as its overreliance on a western perspective but without failing to acknowledge how the strengths of the book far outweigh its limitations.
