| Summary: | The Pontifical Biblical Commission's document The Interpretation of the Bible in the Church (IBC) details interpretive methods which the Roman Catholic exegete should use in the study of Biblical texts. This article highlights the IBC's description and assessment of Contextual Approaches such as Liberation Theology and Feminism. The reading of the Scripture has been susceptible to interpretations according to the context of the reader. Thus, this paper provides an overview and assessment of these two methods of interpretation discussed in the Pontifical Commission's document, as well as an assessment and suggestions for how exegetes can fruitfully engage with these two contextual approaches. Le document de la Commission pontificale biblique L'interprétation de la Bible dans l'Église (IBÉ) détaille les méthodes d'interprétation que l'exégète catholique romain devrait utiliser dans l’étude des textes bibliques. Cet article met en évidence la description et l’évaluation par l’IBÉ des approches contextuelles telles que la théologie de la libération et le féminisme. La lecture de l’Écriture est susceptible de diverses interprétations selon le contexte du lecteur. Ainsi, cet article fournit un aperçu et une évaluation de ces deux méthodes d'interprétation présentées dans le document de la Commission biblique, ainsi qu'une évaluation et des suggestions sur la façon dont les exégètes peuvent s'engager de manière fructueuse en regard de ces deux approches contextuelles. |
