| Summary: | Robert Openheimer was a very prominent scientist, who intervened in the development of quantum mechanics and the beginnings of nuclear physics. He was appointed scientific director of the North American program for the creation of the atomic bomb, which he managed successfully. He intervened in the further development of the arms race, until his authorization to know the atomic secrets of the United States was withdrawn. Complex personality, the ethical implications of the work he did raised awareness problems during the last part of his life. The article analyzes this problem., Robert Openheimer fue un científico muy destacado, que intervino en el desarrollo de la mecánica cuántica y los inicios de la física nuclear. Se le nombró director científico del programa norteamericano para la creación de la bomba atómica, que gestionó con éxito. Intervino en el desarrollo posterior de la carrera armamentística, hasta que se le retiró la autorización para conocer los secretos atómicos de los Estados Unidos. Personalidad compleja, las implicaciones éticas del trabajo que realizó le suscitaron problemas de conciencia durante la última parte de su vida. El artículo analiza esta problemática. |
