Summary:Healing is a culturally defined and culturally determined phenomenon. Western readers of ancient Mediterranean texts will benefit from a clearer understanding of their own Western understanding of healing and how it differs from the Mediterranean understanding of healing. This article guides the reader through a construction of two culturally different definitions of healing and presents a select list of books that can aid in this and other cross-cultural efforts at interpreting ancient Mediterranean texts.
