Summary: | The spiritual teaching of Meister Eckhart often deals with the issue of suffering. The master established a strong link between suffering and Christ's Incarnation and in this implicitly critiques the value attributed to individual difference that is so emphasized nowadays. By focussing on their own human nature, which is common not only to other human beings, but also to the incarnated Son (linked definitively with the human), believers may see their own identity and that of everyone else as something less important than that which is held in common. `If God is with me in my suffering,' Eckhart says, `what more or what else do I want?' |
