| Summary: | Focalizando a realidade sociocultural do protestantismo no contexto latino-americano, este artigo procura delinear, brevemente, os processos de suas diferentes formas de inserção histórica e de interação com os valores culturais-religiosos já consolidados nas sociedades do continente quando de sua chegada. Ademais, procura assinalar o desencontro sociocultural da experiência simbólica do protestantismo com as estruturas de sentido estabelecidas pelo desenvolvimento de matrizes culturais-religiosas durante o período colonial. Este desencontro seria responsável pelo "insucesso" da empresa missionária original e pela transformação da proposta eclesiológica dos protestantismos aqui chegados em versões outras que a originalmente intencionada. Focusing on the socio-cultural reality of Protestantism in the Lalin-American context, this article is an allemptto brielly outline the process of its historical insertion in and interaction with the cultural-religious values already present in the societies of the continent Moreover, the article tries to point outthatthe symbolic experiences of Protestantism departed from the structures of meaning developed during the colonial period in the region. This lack of coincidence would respond for the "failure" of the original missionary enterprise and for the transformation of the ecclesiastical proposals of Protestantism in something quite different from what was originally intended. |
