Description
Summary:Building on five previously published articles, Danove offers a detailed linguistic method for analysing the rhetoric of repetition and the function of characterization in Mark's Gospel, before applying it to the study of God, Jesus, and the disciples. Each study follows the same pattern: an attempt to extract the narrative audience's pre-existing beliefs about each character; an analysis of the text's cultivation of certain beliefs (either positively or negatively) through repeated references and contexts; an outline of the rhetorical organization of these cultivated beliefs; and finally an overview of the narrative rhetoric and function of each character.
