| Summary: | Seven of the nine essays in this collection by a prominent specialist on Chronicles have been published previously, one of them at least more than once. The convenience of having them collected together will be obvious. Of the two previously unpublished pieces, one is on the title ‘City of David’ in Chronicles. It is only four pages long and is effectively a footnote to the previous essay on the Chronicler's portrayal of the capture of Jerusalem by David. The other new essay is on the closing words of the book, which cite part of the Edict of Cyrus from Ezra 1, and on which Kalimi's view are not quite so original as he seems to think. Nearly a quarter of the book is taken up with bibliography and indexes. |
