Summary: | Part one of this timely and erudite collection is called ‘Justin and his Text’, and is designed to establish a pedigree and an occasion for the new edition of Justin Martyr's Apologies, which is currently being brought to press by two of the contributors, Paul Parvis and Denis Minns. Michael Slusser introduces the volume with a short review of scholarship on Justin in the last half century. He finds that Oskar Skarsaune has presided over the study of the Dialogue with Trypho and Carl Andresen over that of the Apologies. All subsequent work he seems to think merely tributary, though he justly commends the innovatory treatments of the Dialogue by Bobichon and Horner. |
