Description
Summary:Some second editions are, quite frankly, no more than reprints, with perhaps correction of any errors that have been noticed, or a corrigenda slip, but little if any substantial change. Those who already possess the first edition need take no action. With this volume, however, it is rather a different matter. According to the introduction, the translation of Book I was first published in 1987 and reprinted with a few changes in 1997. Demand for it has been sufficient to warrant a second edition, and opportunity has been taken ‘to review and revise the translation, edit and expand the notes and index and add indices of references’., The original introduction ran to eighteen pages (pp. ix–xxvii), the new one to just under twenty-four (pp. xi–xxxiv).
