Σύνοψη: | This book, a revised version of Antje Rüttgardt’s doctoral thesis submitted in Kiel in 2003/4, offers four case studies of those who chose to leave their religious orders in the early 1520s. Rüttgardt’s intention is to explore the lived effects of Luther’s early teachings. Whilst writings—especially Luther’s works such De votis monasticis, published in 1521—which encouraged monks and nuns to leave their orders are clearly of importance, Rüttgardt is more interested in exploring the content of the Selbstzeugnisse of those who left—that is, the accounts which they wrote themselves. |
