Описание
Итог:The abortive 1927/1928 Book(s) of Common Prayer have received all too little attention in recent decades in terms of major studies. Donald Gray’s contribution in the Alcuin/GROW series, and the reviewer’s short piece in The Oxford Companion to the BCP are what they are—short summaries rather than full-scale studies. In this respect John Maiden’s monograph fills a gaping lacuna. This study is concerned with assessing the controversy against the background of the mood and culture of Britain of the late 1920s. He notes that in 1912 W. H. Frere had drawn attention to the fact that liturgical revision was in the air—as evidenced in the USA, Canada, South Africa, and Scotland.
