Descrição
Resumo:The essays here collected have their origin in two conferences: the meeting of the Société d’Études Samaritaines in 2004, and the SBL European Meeting of 2007. This dual origin helps to explain the variety of contributions, which range from the traditional concerns of biblical scholars exploring the early history of the Samaritans to discussion of the position of Samaritans in the modern state of Israel., The volume opens with a characteristically thorough examination by Reinhard Pummer of early Samaritanism: was it a Jewish sect or an independent form of Yahwism? After a thorough investigation he concludes that ‘neat and clear-cut distinctions seem to be unattainable’. His article is rounded off by a particularly helpful bibliography.
