Summary: | In 1902 the leading Catholic Modernist, Alfred Loisy, published his influential L’Évangile et l’Église, which is still one of the most widely read theological texts of the period and has been available in English translation for a long time. This modest volume makes available for the first time English translations of five essays which were published by Loisy under the pseudonym A. Firmin (using his middle name) in the Revue du clergé français from 1898 to 1900, which in many ways paved the way for the views Loisy was soon afterwards to expound in his book and for which he was later condemned. |
