Description
Summary:This collection of essays, in honour of John J. Collins, reflects appropriately the scope of that scholar’s own career and research interests. While distinctively located in relation to Second Temple Judaism, and particularly to the role played in that particular period of flux by wisdom and apocalypticism, the essays examine a broad range of texts that bear witness to Jewish identity in the Second Temple period. The studies are collected into five sections, reflecting the particular focal points of Collins’s own research : ‘The Hebrew Bible and its Reception’, ‘Wisdom’, ‘Apocalypticism’, ‘The Dead Sea Scrolls’, and ‘Jews among Greeks and Romans’.
