Description
Summary:In his third weighty contribution to the series ‘Cogitatio Fidei’, based on his course in Christology at the Institut Catholique de Paris, Durand (born 1972) strikes a blow against ‘contemporary theological sensibility, always readier to bring Christ near other human beings than to differentiate him from them’ (p. 161). Sure of his ground, and imbued with the courtesy of St Thomas Aquinas, he does not need to use words like Nestorianism, adoptionism, or psilanthropism to denounce the reductive and naturalistic tendencies rife in Christology today., Agreeing with N. T. Wright against John P. Meier, Durand dismisses the mirage of an objective account of the historical Jesus. If Jesus is the eternal Son in person, born of a virgin, ‘a Christology from below’ can only be a hoax.
