Description
Summary:This volume is a revised 2010 Catholic University of America doctoral dissertation written under the direction of Frank J. Matera. Much of the book interprets Luke 7:18–35 in its narrative context, although there are significant historical-critical analyses employed as well (e.g. redaction criticism). In brief, the book presents a thoughtful, well-reasoned interpretation of Luke 7:18–35 in its literary context., The book begins with a brief reception history of this passage. The earliest commentators were puzzled by the apparent contradiction between John the Baptist’s questioning of Jesus’ identity (Luke 7:19–20) and such passages as John 1:29, where John proclaims Jesus as the ‘lamb of God’.
