Summary: | Peter Beyer has become one of the leading scholars in the area of religion and globalization. After his Religion and Globalization (1994), and Religion in the Process of Globalization (2001), Religions in Global Society offers a carefully developed theory of religion in the global context and an updated account of recent religious developments in the world. The book consists of two parts, one focusing on theories of globalization and of religion, and the other on concrete cases of religious change and adaptation to the realities of globalization. Though the case studies are meant to illustrate and reinforce the theoretical claims, they may also be of interest to readers less interested in sociological theory. |
