Zusammenfassung: | The fact that seven out of the twelve contributions to The Papacy since 1500 deal with the period after 1800 may make this volume's chronological coverage seem uneven, especially as none of the contributions are devoted exclusively to the eighteenth century and only one relates entirely to the seventeenth. The reason for this imbalance lies in its genesis as the product of two editors, both simultaneously teaching university courses on the modern papacy but from different perspectives. Their choice of contributors thus reflects the themes they wished to explore in giving a longer historical perspective to this particular topic. |
