Description
Summary:The purpose of an 'Ethics of the Old Testament' is not to reconstruct the history of the ethos of Israel but rather to shed light on the ethical statements in Old Testament texts and to put them in a present-day context. In this connection, exegesis should also bring out those elements in Old Testament norms (the Old Testament calls these among other things ḥæsæd, 'community spirit', and ̈̈ṣdāqāh, 'righteousness') which do not pertain solely to a certain period in history.
