Sumario:In his last, yet unfinished book Dogma und dramatische Geschichte (Dogma and dramatic history) on the history of the Christological dogma and its repercussions in general history, Raymund Schwager was eager to show that the best defense of the historical-critical approach in the humanities (and beyond) probably comes from a decidedly theological perspective. This article shows that this scholarly enterprise was not only the result of a long intellectual journey in Schwager’s life (turning him from a very firm critic of historical thinking into an apologist), but also a fascinating example of how closely related historical and theological thinking actually can be.
