Description
Summary:The Second Vatican Council as well as post-conciliar ecclesiastical documents stress the importance of a unitary structure in the teaching of ecclesiastical studies: the teaching must bring out clearly the organic connection between the various disciplines so as to make them converge towards the knowledge of the mystery of Christ. On the other hand, theological research and teaching today clearly tend to be analytical; every attempt at systematisation is viewed as alienating. The article examines in what sense the elaboration of a theological synthesis is possible and desirable, and in what sense it is not. It further indicates some lines along which a rightful effort at systematisation can be promoted in the teaching of theology.
