Description
Summary:Psalm 35 is one of those which the Liturgy of the Hours edited most heavily. A precise, in-depth analysis of Ps 35, however, supports the conclusion that it did notdeserve such censorship. Despite all the sufferings and even death threats addressedto him «without reason», the psalmist does not in fact seek vengeance, but insteadtrusts in God that justice be done. What he calls for in his supplication is neither hispersecutors’ death nor their punishment, but that they be led into a confusion thatbrings them to conversion. The censors even ensured they forbade whoever prays thatpsalm from complaining to God about his suffering, which really takes the cake.
