Итог: | The history of Luther's works in Dutch is an integral part of the history of the Dutch Lutherans as a tolerated religious minority. Even though the Low Countries were among the first territories were Luther's writings circulated and were translated, Dutch Lutheranism developed as a minority confession. The Reformed Church was the privileged public church in the Dutch Republic with theological faculties at universities founded in the sixteenth and seventeenth century., As a minority, the Dutch Lutherans were not allowed to establish their own academic institution until 1816, in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Before that the academic training of the future Dutch Lutheran ministerswas mainly outsourced to German Lutheran theological faculties., The article explains why there was no need for a critical, annotated Dutch edition of Luther's works for an academic audience and why practically all the Dutch translations of Luther's works are aimed at a broad audience. A few collections of translated works from the twentieth and twenty-first century are discussed in detail. The last part of the article focuses on the translation of Luther's hymns and explains how Luther's writings and hymns in Dutch are both a vital part of the Dutch Lutheran confessional identity. |
