Summary: | In the summer 1938 the Theological Faculty of the Innsbruck University was suppressed by the recently in Austria installed Nazi-Regime. In spite of this act the Jesuits continued their theological work sustained by the Holy See and the Arch-Bishop of Salzburg in the framework of an ecclesiastical study-center. The details of the following political campaign in order to finish with this famous theological tradition of Innsbruck are described here so that the transfer of a part of the Faculty into Switzerland and the further theological engagement in Innsbruck itself and afterwards in Vienna becomes understandable. The given conditions forced to invent a mostly new form of theological training, which happened to function until the end of the war in Vienna. For the first time the available informations about this adventure are collected in this article showing an unexpected possibility realized by a group convinced of the necessity to resist against the power of spiritual destruction. |
