Summary: | So far little research has been carried out on the history of Church Law. In particular no study has been made of the attitudes of church lawyers during the Nazi period. This article seeks to describe the position of Canon Law using the Archive for Catholic Church law as an example. At least for the Catholic church, there was a widespread tense relationship. On the one hand, church lawyers took a critical stance towards the Nazis' ideas on church affairs. On the other hand, they adopted a more favourable view of Nazi policies in general, largely because of their predominantly German national stance. |
