Description
Résumé:Some years ago Frieder Schulz gave a monographical analysis of the liturgy of Lima (Die Lima-Liturgie. Die ökumenische Gottesdienstordnung zu den Lima-Texten. Ein Beitrag zum Verständnis und zur Urteilsbildung. Stauda, Kassel 1983, 32 p.). According to the intention of one of its original authors, Max Thurian, this liturgy „should not claim another authority than that having been celebrated on the occasion of some important ecumenical events" (like the WCC-Council Vancouver 1983). Schulz establishes a comprehensive and almost complete documentation (bibliography and selected texts included) from the remarks of the Orthodox-Orientalic Churches unto the so-called Free Churches: by this way he demonstrates the significant reception of this liturgy together with the Faith-and-Order-Papers (BEM) within the churches, communities and other groups. Proceeding in four resp. five steps he resumes how liturgical tradition has been taken in consideration by the shape and by the joint use of several sorts of prayer; a number of most remarkable innovations is brought forward by the liturgy of Lima. The most proper innovation, the great eucharistic prayer has to face serious questions from the position of the Protestant Churches in some respects. The actual musical fashion of the liturgy reflects the peculiarity of the denomination and situation in which the liturgy was celebrated. Some churches are ready to encourage their communities to integrate the ecumenical impulses into their own liturgy for renewal; this will be of far-reaching importance.
