| Summary: | The Noachide Commandments are the product of rabbinic reflection on the moral obligations of Gentiles, but have important antecedents in the laws for resident aliens in the Torah, in certain universalizing prophetic passages, and in a variety of Jewish texts from the Hellenistic period. Close examination shows that the halakhic concerns underlying the Noachide Commandments (concerning chiefly idolatry, sexual immorality, blood offences) contribute to the formulation of practical morality, e.g. in the Apostolic Decree of Acts 15 and in the letters of Paul; the same principles remain influential in the book of Revelation and in a number of post-apostolic writings. Les commandements noachides sortent de la réflexion rabbinique sur les obligations morales des gentils, mais elles ont d'importants antécédents dans la législation de la Torah au sujet des étrangers résidents, dans certains textes prophétiques de tendance universalisante, et aussi dans de nombreux écrits juifs de la période hellénistique. Il semble que les principes halachiques que supposent les commandements noachides (concernent surtout l'idolâtrie, l'immoralité sexuelle, le sang) ont contribué à la formulation d'une morale pratique, ainsi dans le décret apostolique de Actes 15 et dans les lettres pauliniennes : les mêmes principes sont toujours à l'œuvre dans le livre de l'Apocalypse et dans nombre de compositions post-apostoliques. |
