Description
Summary:Most of the research on conflict within the churches has been concerned with the social issues which divide congregations. This case study of a suburban congregation of the Lutheran Church in America is concerned with the religious ideologies which generate dissensus in a congregation and the dynamics by which these ideologies emerge into structural conflict. It finds that Dahrendorf's empirical conditions for the emergence of conflict from dissensus are applicable to the study of conflict within the churches.
