| Summary: | L'article propose d'abord une analyse critique de la manière habituelle de poser le problème d'éventuelles contradictions entre les énoncés des spirituels et ceux des théologiens relatifs à la valeur des créatures; il critique notamment la distinction entre un régime spéculatif purement abstrait et un registre pratique, qui serait le seul historique et concret. Il soumet aussi à la critique la thèse qui, tout en soutenant la non-contradiction chez les saints, admet que des erreurs d'appréciation (confusion des deux registres) se sont produites chez d'autres que les saints, à partir du XIXe s. L'article fournit ensuite une description et des exemples de la problématique réelle: coexistence de certaines formes spéculatives de mépris du monde avec l'affirmation de la bonté des créatures. Il dégage les questions que l'historien est amené à poser et relève les interprétations restrictives de la bonté des créatures conduisant au mépris du monde, émises dès l'époque patristique. En conclusion, l'A. montre qu'il faut interroger les textes anciens en fonction de la mentalité réelle de leurs auteurs et, en conséquence, réviser la problématique courante. The article firstly proposes a critical analysis of the habitual manner of posing the problem of contingent contradictions between the statements of the spiritual writers and those of the theologians relative to the value of creatures; it criticises, notably, the distinction between a speculative regime, purely abstract, and a practical register, which may be the only thing historical and concrete. It also submits to criticism the thesis which, fully supporting non-contradiction on the part of the saints, admits that some errors of appreciation (confusion of the two registers) were produced by some other than the saints, after the 19th century. The article next furnishes a description and some examples of the real problematic : Coexistence of certain speculative forms of contempt for the world with the affirmation of the goodness of creatures. It picks out the questions which the historian is led to pose, and points out the restrictive interpretations of the goodness of creatures conducive to contempt for the world, transmitted since the patristic period. In conclusion, the article shows thai it is necessary to question the ancient texts in function with the real mentality of their authors and, in consequence, revise the current problematic. |
