Summary: | Rivalries between Sees, balance of power struggles between civil authorities, Bishops and the Papacy in the history of Councils. The word homoousios : origin, insertion into the Nicean Creed, what importance it had for Athanasius. Gregory of Nazianze’s bitterness after Constantinople I, due to personal attacks and a lack of dogmatic firmness vis-à-vis pneumatomatic and apollinarist movements. Cyril’s use of Theotokos at Ephesus and his mounting influence until 444. Chalcedonia’s expression “in two natures” perhaps allowed the exclusion of Dioscorus. |
