| Summary: | The theological research of Claude Geffré, presented by this article, was carried on for more than forty years. It developed diverse aspects of dialogue, such as the dialogue between faith and human experience and that between Christianity and other religions. The article explores the roots of this theology, in particular its connection to the school of the Saulchoir and then with Marie-Dominique Chenu and his theology of « signs of the times ». C. Geffré, who began his instruction as a « reader » of St. Thomas’ works, distanced himself from a tradition marked by metaphysics to develop a hermeneutic approach. His hermeneutic theology endeavors to bring to life the dialogue between faith and modern reason, paying particularly close attention to the political dimension of the faith. In the new context of religious pluralism, C. Geffré dedicated numerous works to inter-religious dialogue, where he sees the most serious challenge to face Christian theology in the future. His project is to arrive at a form of « inter-religious theology » and to find, by way of the dialogue of religions, the means of overcoming the separation between mysticism and theology’s political dimension. His research, in any case, develops within the horizon of a spirituality of « the authentic human ». RésuméLa recherche théologique de Claude Geffré, présentée par cet article, s’est poursuivie durant plus de quarante ans. Elle a développé divers aspects du dialogue, comme le dialogue entre la foi et l’expérience humaine et le dialogue entre le christianisme et les autres religions. L’article explore les racines de cette théologie, en particulier son lien avec l’école du Saulchoir et donc avec Marie-Dominique Chenu et sa théologie des « signes des temps ». C. Geffré, qui a commencé son enseignement comme « lecteur » des œuvres de saint Thomas, a pris ses distances à l’égard d’une tradition théologique marquée par la métaphysique pour développer une approche herméneutique. Son herméneutique théologique s’efforce de mettre en œuvre le dialogue entre la foi et la raison moderne, en portant une attention toute particulière à la dimension politique de la foi. Dans le nouveau contexte du pluralisme religieux, C. Geffré a consacré de nombreux travaux au dialogue interreligieux, où il voit le défi le plus important que la théologie chrétienne aura à relever dans l’avenir. Son projet est de parvenir à une forme de « théologie interreligieuse » et de trouver, à travers le dialogue des religions, le moyen de surmonter la séparation entre dimension mystique et dimension politique de la théologie. Sa recherche, en tout cas, se développe dans l’horizon d’une spiritualité de « l’humain authentique ». |
