Description
Résumé:This article will examine changes in our relationship with the earth in theology and ecology in the early part of this century and how these have been reflected in musicking. It will examine existing hymns as museums of a theology that may no longer be relevant, concerning the relationship between the Divine and the earth, often representing a flight from the soil. It will link this with the rediscovery of how Hildegard of Bingen’s concept of viriditas (greening power) with the notion of the world as God’s body is reflected in some contemporary hymnody. It will use story, hymnody, and poetry – both traditional and contemporary – to illustrate this.
