Riepilogo:The beginning of the ministry of John the Baptist is dated more accurately than any other event related in the New Testament. According to the report of Luke it happened ""in the fifteenth year of the rule of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and Philip, his brother, tetrarch of the territory Iturea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, at the time of the high-priest Annas and Caiaphas"" (Luke 3 : 1 sqq.). But in spite of all this accuracy it is yet not clear when exactly it happened. That is because very little is known of the persons mentioned, their term of office gives too much latitude and their reign cannot be dated precisely.
