Description
Summary:Although the period of the Hebrew patriarchs cannot be determined exactly, the opinion of prof. J. Bright, namely that the events reflected in Genesis, chapters 12-50, fit best in the time between about the twentienth and about the seventeenth or early sixteenth centuries B.C.1) may be accepted for the study. According to the Bible Abram stayed for some time in the vicinity of Harran, not far from the ancient city of Mari in northern Mesopotamia which flourished during the 18th century B.C. and was possibly visited by Abram on his journey from Ur. Their language and names were probably of Amorite character.
