Descrizione
Riepilogo:This paper explores an integrative understanding of spirituality via Jessica Benjamin’s (1990, 2004, 2013, 2016, 2018) concepts of the Third in intersubjective psychoanalytic theory. By applying contributions of the Third to the Christian narrative, the paper connects Jesus’ incarnation, crucifixion, and resurrection to the intersubjective therapy relationship. Christian therapists can partner with the Holy Spirit’s work in a Christian patient to build intrapsychic and interpersonal capacities for deeper spirituality. By way of the relational encounter, spirituality is co-created and emerges, deepening both patient and therapist’s spirituality. Vignettes are used throughout to exemplify this process.
